Forty years ago, in the pine forests of East Texas, my mom and dad had a dream to build an extraordinary summer camp experience for boys and girls... a dream where children and teens come to experience a special bond of friendship that lasts forever ... a dream where individual skills and talents are tested around the framework of team spirit, sports and adventure ... and a dream where an amazing staff of camp counselors provide leadership, enthusiasm and plenty of hugs.

Today, that dream has never been more alive as youth from all over the country come to play in a safe, Christian environment and "catch the magic" of Huawni. The language is laughter and words fall short of fully describing the experience.

If you are searching for Texas summer camps, I would love to visit with you about Camp Huawni. Phone or email and let's talk about camp.

Activities

The setting at Camp Huawni is perfect for FUN ACTIVITIES! The swimming pool and Huawni Springs make for a splashing good time. Campers who like sports can kick a soccer ball, smash a wiffleball, or shoot a hoop or two. The acres of outdoors that surround the camp make hiking trails more adventuresome, the fishing pond luckier, and the horseback riding outings a trip back into nature.

During regular activity days, campers are divided by age into small activity groups and are scheduled into three activity periods in the morning and three in the afternoon. Campers participate in a variety of activities. On special days, such as the Phantom's Playday, Huawni Uprising, and Camptown Races, the camp comes together, campers are divided into teams, and the entire camp is involved.

An activity highlight of the two-week sessions is Tribal Competition - each camper is chosen on a Tribe and competes against the other Tribes for the coveted Golden Pinecone, the Tribal Competition symbol of victory.

The evenings are a special time at Camp Huawni also. The talented Counseling Staff creates two major productions – the Opening Night Show and the Celebration Dance. Camp wide events such as skit night, sing songs, the Miss Huawni Pageant, and trailer rides keep the fun times going well after the sun goes down. Hearing the Huawni stories told, singing the camp songs and just looking up at the clear summer night make memories that not soon forgotten.

Throughout all the activities, whether in the water, on horseback, or holding a fishing pole, there is one common denominator that is a trademark of Camp Huawni - and that is laughter.
